L.A. Delegation Inspires Ohio Voters

Longshoreman Luke Hollinsworth Reports Back

Luke Hollinsworth, longshoreman with ILWU Local 13 and part of the 90 person L.A. delegation to Ohio, reports back from Columbus, Ohio:

“Ninety of us from L.A. have been hitting the streets of Columbus Ohio. We have been knocking on doors and reminding people to get out and vote today against ballot issue 2.  Voting down issue 2 will repeal Senate Bill 5, which in turn will restore the rights for the public unions of Ohio to collectively bargain. We have been talking about the negative impact that issue 2 will have not only for Ohio but for all workers in the U.S.

We are here because it’s not okay to stand by when Ohio Gov. Kasich makes statements as appalling as ‘he wants to break the backs of unions’.

My ILWU brother Ramon Montoya, a longshoreman from Los Angeles/Long Beach, knocked on the door of school teacher the other day. When he told her he wanted to let her know that issue 2 was bad for America, she said thank you for your hard work.  When he let her know he was from Los Angeles, she gave Ray a big bear hug.  This is what solidarity looks like.”

Tonight watch election results live from Ohio on The Ed Show on MSNBC starting at 4:30PM PST. Our L.A. Delegation will be in the audience after four days of knocking on doors and turning out the vote!
