Governor Brown signs bills to speed up Farmers Field and 23,000 new jobs

Surrounded by out-of-work construction workers, hotel workers, entertainment industry workers, union and business leaders and elected officials, Governor Brown signed two bills to speed up the building of Farmers Field stadium and convention center. The project bring 23,000 good jobs to L.A.

Maria Elena Durazo, head of L.A. Labor, addressed the crowd, “Unemployment in the building trades is up to 40%. This is not a recession. It is a crisis. Farmers Field is about jobs, jobs, jobs.”

After signing the bills, Don Taylor, an out-of-work Ironworker from Local 433 expressed his optimism, “We hope this goes because we need to go back to work. I’d be happy again. I’d have somewhere to go, something to do, pay my bills on time, save money. This means everything.”

Tom Bongiovi, who worked on L.A. Live for a year and a half as an Ironworker, is a single dad in the trades. He was able to get primary custody of his son with the stability that job provided.
