workers with moderator, Pitzer Professor Jose Calderon, and panelists
Assemblyman Mike Eng, Assemblyman Roger Hernandez, State Sentor Ed
Hernandez, El Monte Mayor Andre Quintero and UFCW 1428 President Connie
Leyva.
On Friday, July 22, more than 200 grocery workers, community members,
elected officials and staffers packed the El Monte Community Center to
to address and assess how another Southern California grocery strike
could impact the local economy and community of the San Gabriel Valley.
Local residents were exposed to several perspectives from the panel,
including area elected officials, a food bank representative, union
leaders, and grocery workers.
