Redistricting 101
Redistricting is the process of redrawing the lines of political districts.
Each 10 years census data is taken and then used to inform how to draw congressional, state (senate, assembly), and local (Board of Supervisors, city council, school) districts.
Traditionally, party operatives broker these deals.
However, in 2008 and 2008 we voted for change. Today, a commission of citizens will draw the lines.
To best ensure working families voices are heard, we must testify for this commission.
Formerly known as the Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) this team of 14 has until August 1, 2011 to finish all 187 districts (including state senate and assembly, U.S. Congress, and Board of Equalization).
This will have a tremendous impact on our elections and who will represent us for 10 years.
