LAX airport workers and several unions join rally against legislative and corporate attacks on airline workers
Hundreds of flight attendants dressed in uniform from over 20 airlines held an OccuFLY protest at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday, February 6. Flight attendants, represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), were joined by LAX airport workers and several L.A. unions and community groups.
Flight attendants and supporters were protesting the latest attacks on collective bargaining rights included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill which passed Congress and now sits on President Obama’s desk.
“Flight attendants are first responders for passengers. Our priority is to make sure passengers are not only comfortable, but safe when they fly,” said Veda Shook, AFA-CWA International President. “Instead of working with us to keep passengers safe, the airline corporations and their lobbyists are spending millions to take away our right to join a union. Flight attendants work hard every day. We will not stand for corporate and political attacks against us. America is not just about first class. It’s about the middle class and we are standing together to fight back against corporate greed and attacks on working people.”
