The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the 2012 survey with official union membership numbers and California is leading the growth in the number of unionized jobs nationwide.
Earlier, the Center for Economic and Policy Research, CEPR, produced a detailed report on state-level union membership numbers, the Advance Estimate: State Union Membership, 2012.
The CEPR report shows states by the share of employees who are members of a union, the number and percentage point changes in union membership between 2011 and 2012.
The report also provides a breakdown on private and public sector membership for each state separately as shown below.
CEPR’s estimates are based on complete 2012 data and are within a few tenths of a percentage of difference from the official membership rates published by the Bureau of Labor Force Statistics.
