Don’t Waste LA Coalition rallied at American Reclamation
On Thursday, January 19, the Don’t Waste LA coalition rallied with over 250 Teamster members, other unions, and community and environmental groups to demand better working conditions and standards at American Reclamation – a waste and recycling company currently under investigation by Cal-OSHA and the NLRB.
Workers at the facility are organizing to join Teamsters Local 396 and working with the Don’t Waste LA coalition to transform LA’s commercial waste industry. Joined by LA City Councilmembers Richard Alarcon and Eric Garcetti, the rally took place in front of the company’s headquarters, and was followed by a delegation to their corporate offices. The company refused to open their doors.
Prompted by the deaths of two young brothers at a green waste facility in Kern County, American Reclamation workers are organizing so that similar tragedies don’t occur at their facility or other waste and recycling companies in the region.
