Asian Pacific American Community Pledge Support for Mark Ridley-Thomas for 2nd District County Supervisor

APALA for Ridley Thomas

Asian Pacific American workers and community leaders announced their support for Mark Ridley-Thomas for Second District County Supervisor today at the Koreatown Pocket Park and Monument.  Supporters included workers, second district residents and community leaders.

“I’m supporting Mark Ridley-Thomas because he is a strong voice for all working people, said Phoury Chhun, a G.A.I.N services worker for the Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services and a resident of the second district “I see Mark Ridley-Thomas as someone who can unite our communities and make positive change.”

Mark Ridley-Thomas has drawn the support of the Asian Pacific American community based on his experience and his stance on key issues.  He established the Public School Health Center Program, which provides thousands of uninsured children with preventative health care. With looming state budget cuts and skyrocketing health care costs, he stands for improving access to health services in L.A. County and reopening the King-Drew trauma center. He also has a long record working for affordable housing to make it easier for people to own a home and he supported legislation that increased low-interest loans and low-cost housing.  As County Supervisor he will build his record by requiring developers to provide specific levels of affordable housing in new developments.

“For me, this race and electing Mark Ridley-Thomas is especially important because I live and work in this district,” said Tommy Faavae an electrician and resident of Carson. “There is a vast difference between both candidates. Mark Ridley-Thomas has continuingly stood with working people, Parks hasn’t. That says a lot to me.”

Mark Ridley-Thomas will fight to keep our communities safe. Because of his crack down on drugs and gang violence, both Chief William Bratton and Sheriff Lee Baca have endorsed Mark Ridley-Thomas.  He is tough on crime and supports increasing penalties on gang and drug related offenses.

The Alliance kicked off campaign efforts March 29th and has since communicated with thousands of voters in the Second District about the need to elect Ridley-Thomas – the only candidate in the race for the L.A. County Board of Supervisors with progressive values and who is committed to fighting for good jobs, healthcare, education, public safety, gang violence and affordable housing.
